Terms of Use

These conditions govern access to and use of the website. Browsing a page, reading its material, or submitting a search signifies acceptance. If you disagree with any condition, stop using the website.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website has no connection to a local, Illinois, or federal government office. The website and its advertising partners do not provide tools for credit decisions, employment checks, insurance underwriting, tenant screening, or another purpose regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Its role is limited to directing readers toward Adams County and Illinois criminal-record resources. It is neither a private-investigation service nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is an independent private reference website, not a government office. It neither stores official criminal files nor obtains records, performs official checks, or files paperwork on a visitor's behalf.

Its materials identify the custodians of Adams County records, including the sheriff's records unit, the Circuit Court of the Eighth Judicial Circuit, the Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification, and the Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registry. Links may also lead to outside research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

As a condition of use, you must not:

  • Use website content for hiring, housing, lending, or insurance decisions
  • Stalk, threaten, or harass a person with information found here
  • Violate a federal, Illinois, or local law through your use
  • Deploy a scraper, bot, or other automated access tool
  • Attempt to enter a system or area without authorization
  • Interfere with performance or another visitor's access

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

You may not use website information or a linked tool to intimidate, discriminate against, stalk, threaten, or harass anyone. Such conduct may be criminal. The restriction is especially important for Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registry data, which is published for lawful public-safety awareness. Illinois law and ISP warnings do not permit vigilantism, threats, harassment, or discriminatory misuse against a listed person.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the FCRA and do not create a credit report, background report, or other consumer report. Advertising partners likewise are not presented as services for applicant screening, rental review, insurance pricing, or credit evaluation. Information from the website or a linked tool may not be used to:

  • Evaluate eligibility for a license, permit, or government benefit
  • Make an employment or termination decision
  • Review a rental or housing application
  • Set insurance terms or assess creditworthiness
  • Carry out any other FCRA-regulated activity

When a lawful purpose requires such a report, obtain the appropriate official process from the Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification or use a screening provider that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

Website material is general information, not legal advice. It cannot determine how an Adams County charge, conviction, warrant, sealing rule, or expungement law affects a particular situation. Seek advice from a licensed Illinois lawyer.

6. No Warranties

All content and functions are supplied "as is." No warranty promises that:

  • An outside search provider will return complete or correct results
  • Website information is always complete, accurate, and current
  • Pages contain no error, defect, or security weakness
  • Access will remain continuous and uninterrupted

Criminal records change as charges are filed or dismissed and as courts order sealing or expungement. Delays and omissions may occur. Only the originating Adams County or Illinois office can provide an official statement of its record.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may open an Adams County office, a court portal, an Illinois agency, a legal-aid organization, or an outside search provider. Those destinations are beyond our control. We are not responsible for their availability, prices, content, or data practices. Review the destination's own terms before proceeding.

8. Intellectual Property

Adams County Criminal History or its content partners own the website's text, code, logos, and graphics. Written permission is required before copying, adapting, distributing, or creating derivative material from that content.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim liability for loss or damage resulting from website use, including reliance on material supplied here or by a linked service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless against a demand, claim, or legal proceeding arising from your use or breach of these terms, including related costs and reasonable legal fees.

11. Governing Law

Illinois law governs these terms. A dispute arising from website use must be brought in a court located in Illinois. Public access to Illinois government records is separately addressed by the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and public conviction-information dissemination by the Uniform Conviction Information Act, 20 ILCS 2635.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these conditions at any time. A revision becomes effective when the updated language is posted here. These terms are effective July 20, 2026.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or ended at any time, for any reason, and without advance notice.

14. Severability

If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions continue in force. The affected language will be modified only to the extent required for enforceability.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be submitted through the Contact page.
